Listen up!

Robert Plant/Alison Krauss album rocks. reco'nize

better communication resolution

Angelica will be released in paperback on Feb 12. That should give us all time to sort ourselves from the holidays. Of course, we all have our stuff - new house, wedding plans, etc. - but I think we decided to do this thing in an effort to keep our friendship alive! in the midst of all the quotidien busy-ness.

for our part, we have set new goals for ourselves to make our house feel more like home, to make new friends and to travel in Mexico more. This means shopping all weekend and looking into taking road trips to Playa del Carmen and Puerto Escondito. The dogs are well and our utility problems seem to be resolved.

We also are starting to plan our spring and late summer trips to America (Portland for me, Vegas or Maine for Malc)as well as making plans for summer in NZ and Danielle's wedding.

Good luck to everyone on exams, moving, new jobs, etc. We love you and we'll see you all again in August.

Can we get the novel and have it read by the end of Feb? We could try an online discussion on Saturday March 1 maybe?

ciao for now, jillian

i need a bigger antenna and comments on evolution

So, on January 2nd, 2008, I spent an hour or so talking to a wireless solutions guy about antennas. It was pretty funny to see the look on his face when I admitted that we don't have cable or internet. His exact words, "so do you get your news on your phone?"

Apparently, the radio is too low tech to be on his radar.

I opted to go with the cheapest option to see if it would work all right, since in general, that's what I do (as you all know).

Result: It sort of works. If i put the antenna on the window, then open the window, I get a weak signal in the bedroom. Considering the we were previously carrying the laptop onto the front porch (rain or shine) to get a weak, pirated signal, this is a slight improvement.

However, in line with the natural evolution of things, I feel like 2008 is going to be a year of more grown-up solutions.

For instance, rather than rig up Scott's broken hanging sweater shelf with a curtain pin, we'll just buy a new one.

Over time, I have noticed a direct correlation between grown-up-ness and rampant consumerism, but I suppose you just have to take that on a case by case basis. Purchases that significantly improve quality of life seem to be a good place to start.

In other words, I think we're going to spring for the bigger antenna.
